THE ORIGIN STORY OF MOTHER’s DAY
Anna Maria Jarvis was the founder of Mother’s Day in the United States. Inspired by her mother who served wounded soldiers in the American Civil War, she wanted a way to remember her own deceased mother and all the others. Anna held memorials for her mother and used hundreds of white Carnations. After years of consistency, this day became an official national Day in the US. This quickly started the commercialization of white Carnations. As white Carnations symbolize sympathy for deceased mothers, colored Carnations represent “living” mothers.
